Photo of the Week: Ferry

When my sister first suggested we travel to a small town 5 hours from Vancouver, I balked at the idea.  It just seemed like too much running around and not much time to relax.  But most of the journey was by ferry, and we got to see the beautiful British Columbia landscape from the water – prominently featuring rolling hills and snow capped mountains.  Check back next week for more posts from my trip to British Columbia.

British Columbia: Hiking Garibaldi Lake

IMG_2981

After getting off of a red-eye with only four hours of sleep, we decided to head to Squamish to attempt an EPIC 18 km hike to Garibaldi Lake.  Were we crazy?  Probably.  But how can you not hike when you’re in British Columbia, where hiking is practically a required past time. Continue reading

Photo of the Week: Down-time

This was the scene from our beach house where we spent a blissful week enjoying nature and each other’s company.   We swam, kayaked, and and relaxed by the beach.  We even got to forage for our dinner along the shore.  Check back for my detailed post about our time in Powell River, B.C. next week.

Travel Shoes

Like most people who live in NYC, I don’t have a car; so it’s no secret that I love to walk. I walk everywhere at home and while I travel. One time I even walked the length of Manhattan, if you can believe it.  It took me about 8 hours with a few breaks in between – but I did it! I find that walking is the best way to explore a city. Photo of the Week: Helicopter

IMG_7248New York City, USA

This week I am going to take a break from all the nature posts and share this incredible picture of NYC. On Saturday I I got to do something EXTRA special that I’ve wanted to do FOREVER! I took an  open-door heli tour around the city with Wings Air, a heli tour company based in Westchester. It was an experience I’ll never forget.  Our skillful pilot navigated us to all the landmarks in the city.  We were so close to the buildings, it felt like I could reach out and touch them. This one particular shot was taken of the Freedom tower at sunset.  You can see the setting sun peaking between the elevator shafts creating an unforgettable shot.

Photo of the Week: Frozen

IMG_2981Vancouver, Canada

After getting off a red-eye and having four hours of sleep, we decided to head to Squamish to attempt the epic 18 km uphill hike to Garibaldi Lake.  Even though it’s warm, the lake was still semi-frozen.

We were less than prepared for the strenuous hike.  Thank God we didn’t run into a bear.
