Photo of the Week: Family Trip

_DSC0601Runaway Bay, Jamaica

A few years ago, we organized a family trip to Jamaica with both of our families.  The thing about family trips is that they are stressful and fun at the same time, and this trip was no different.  From beginning to end it was packed full of adventures including stolen fruits, hijinks, and a rescue mission. All the ingredients for a memorable trip.  We are due for another trip soon.

Photo of the Week: Rowing

The beautiful El Parque de Retiro, located in the heart of Madrid, is a popular spot for the city’s residents who go there to row boats and sunbathe.  It was opened in the early seventeenth century with access only granted to members of the monarchy.  The royal family used to host pageants, mock naval battles, and bullfights on these grounds.

Photo of the Week: Windy City

The one hundred year old Navy Pier is not just a fun place to spend the afternoon, but it is also a historic landmark.  It is over 3000 feet long, jutting into Lake Michigan; from the pier, you have a great view of the Chicago skyline with the prominent John Hancock Building with its double antenna.

Photo of the Week: Gorge

This week, I dug up some photos from our trip to Atlanta a few years ago.  Since we rented a car, we decided to drive out to Tallulah Gorge for a short day-hike.  This beautiful destination, filled with waterfalls, rock outcrops, and river cascades is one of the most popular trails in Georgia.  The easy to follow 2 mile trail takes you across a suspension bridge, down towards the gorge and back out again.

Photo of the Week: City-center

IMG_2436Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Every few years I go back to my hometown only to find that it has changed beyond recognition.  Vietnam has one of the fastest growing economies in Asia, which has translated into more high rises and modern buildings. Although there is still one area that has remained the same, the main square overlooking City Hall. The familiar French colonial building with its bright orange roof is iconic in this ever-changing city.

Photo of the Week: Tranquility

IMG_6933Coco Plum, Belize

During everyone’s travels, one always has a place that one dreams about revisiting. That place for us is Belize, more specifically, Coco Plum Resort.  The time we spent on the little secluded island was a paradise where time ceased to exist. Since there was no TV or internet, we were blissfully cut off from the world; and instead we spent our time reconnecting with each other and our surroundings.

Photo of the Week: Roman Theatre

Aspendos (19)Aspendos, Turkey

One of the best preserved ancient Roman theaters is, oddly enough, not even located in Italy.  It can be found near the Southern coast of Turkey, by the city of Antalya.  This UNESCO World Heritage Site is frequented by hundreds of thousands of people every year.  We were there earlier in the morning, and had the place to ourselves.  In the summer, the beautiful building also hosts the annual Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival where visitors get a chance to experience the acoustics of this ancient theater.

Photo of the Week: NYC

IMG_1750New York, USA

I love walking, that’s probably the biggest reason why I love living in New York.  If you have the time, you can walk from the top to the bottom of Manhattan and explore the different neighborhoods that are constantly changing.  This past weekend, we decided to take a walk across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge on a lovely sunny day.  From the bridge you can see the Manhattan skyline across the East River.  You can also see the Empire State Building as well as the Chrysler Building in this photo.

Photo of the Week: Sunrise

IMG_1930Bagan, Myanmar

Bagan captured my heart like no other place I’ve ever visited, and has cemented its spot at the top of my all-time favorites.  This place stirred up my sense of adventure as I hopped on my bike with map in hand to explore the forgotten temples peaking out from above the trees. As popular as it is, you can always find a peaceful corner, away from the crowds. Lying back against the broken ledge, staring up at the open sky, I felt a deep connection to this magnificent place. To read more about our visit to Bagan, check out this link.

Photo of the Week: Sunshine

IMG_4734Porto, Portugal

This weekend I turned another year older, inching my way to the big 4-0.  Recently I noticed that time seems to be flying by too quickly, so moments like this have to be appreciated.  This photo was taken last year in Porto, one of my favorite cities in Europe.  We walked to the top of Miradouro da Vitória and stopped to enjoy the warm sunshine.
