During our long weekend trip to Dubai a few years ago, we stayed at Le Meridian Mina Seyahi, a beachfront resort located right in the heart of the city.  A few minutes of walking from our hotel room brought us to the crystal clear water of the Persian Gulf, where we could look straight through the water and see many tiny fishes.  Another interesting feature about the beach is the fact that you can look up behind you and see the skyscrapers of Dubai in the background.  This picture perfectly captured that contrast between the laid back beach vibes and the sleek tall buildings of the modern city nearby.

Photo of the Week: Sand Surfing

Recently sand surfing has become a popular sport in the Middle East, and while on our short trip to Dubai we had a chance to experience this adrenaline filled past-time in the Arabian desert. We took a 4×4 out to the middle of the desert, strapped on a board, and glided down the soft sand dunes. This picture was taken of my friend Nate as he crushed it, on his first time down the dune.

On our trip to Dubai, we visited the famous Burj Al Arab, the world’s only 7 star hotel.  The distinctive sail-shaped silhouette stands out among the city’s many stunning buildings.  We got to see the decadent interior and experience the extraordinary service when we came here for afternoon tea service.  We had a blissful time indulging our sweet tooth while admiring the view overlooking the Persian Gulf.

Photo of the Week: Atlantis

We went to the UAE earlier this year on a quick trip to Dubai, known for its extravagancies and 7 star hotels. The whole city rose out of the desert about 20 years ago, and continues to thrive while leading the world with their innovative architecture.

This is a photo of the Atlantis Resort at the Palm Dubai taken from the Burj Al Arab. The islands were made in the shape of a palm tree. The setting sun highlights the Atlantis rising out of the ocean reminding me of an ancient lost city.
