Photo of the Week: Majestic

IMG_1884 Yosemite National Park, USA

This photo was taken from Glacier Point of the majestic Yosemite National Park.  It’s no secret that I love aerial views.   I’ve always wanted to see every place from above, so that’s why I am excited to to finally get a drone.  I’ve thought about this for along time, but never taken the plunge, until now.  I am so excited to try it out when we’re in Scotland.

Photo of the Week: Floating

Hawaii is truly a tropical paradise with its lush green fields and cloud covered mountains.  This was the place I choose to stay when I was in recovery from my surgery a few years ago. Even though I couldn’t swim or do any fun physical activities, it was simply enough to sit here and enjoy the view while feeling grateful that I was still able to travel .

Photo of the Week: Balloons

Sunrise in Bagan is one of the most magical moments. Each morning we would set the alarm and roll out of bed when it was still dark out.  We would put on our clothes while half asleep while questioning ourselves why we were up at that ungodly hour.  Then we hopped on our bikes and headed out into the unknown.  Our mission was to find a small temple with a terrace where we could go up and watch the sunrise.

It was still dark out when we finally made it to the top.  We sat there patiently waiting for the sun to rise and the hot air balloons to make their way over the horizon. At the crack of dawn, a sliver of light shined through and you could finally see glimpses of this magical landscape.  In the morning a thick layer of fog also blankets the area creating this dreamy effect. Even with the 4 am wake up call, it was worth the effort every time.

Photo of the Week: Down-time

IMG_3538Powell River, Canada

This was the scene from our beach house where we spent a blissful week enjoying nature and each other’s company.   We swam, kayaked, and and relaxed by the beach.  We even got to forage for our dinner along the shore.  Check back for my detailed post about our time in Powell River, B.C. next week.

Photo of the Week: Helicopter

IMG_7248New York City, USA

This week I am going to take a break from all the nature posts and share this incredible picture of NYC. On Saturday I I got to do something EXTRA special that I’ve wanted to do FOREVER! I took an  open-door heli tour around the city with Wings Air, a heli tour company based in Westchester. It was an experience I’ll never forget.  Our skillful pilot navigated us to all the landmarks in the city.  We were so close to the buildings, it felt like I could reach out and touch them. This one particular shot was taken of the Freedom tower at sunset.  You can see the setting sun peaking between the elevator shafts creating an unforgettable shot.

Photo of the Week: Golden Hour

IMG_0443 Florida, USA

One of my favorite memories of our trip to Florida was undoubtedly the gorgeous sunset at Siesta Beach. We joined the throngs of people looking West, watching the sun slowly descend into the horizon.  As the sun went down, the sky turned into a golden spectacle, casting a soft glow on anything and everything that it touched.  We lingered until the last bit of light disappeared before making our way back home.

Photo of the Week: Cà d’Zan

IMG_2099 Florida, USA

We recently got back from our short vacation and I can’t wait to share some of the places we’ve visited.  One of my favorites was the massive, well-maintained Ringling estate. The beautiful Ca d’Zan was the winter home of the Circus King, John Ringling. The waterfront residence overlooks Sarasota Bay and reminds me of the Doge’s Palace in Venice. Check back next week for more posts from my Florida trip.

Photo of the Week: Duomo

IMG_0099Florence, Italy

This week I am reminiscing back to 10 years ago when we visit Florence on our VERY  first trip abroad.  I remembered falling head over heels in love with this city standing on top of the Campanile di Giotto.  From the bell tower, you can see the tiny people atop of the famous Duomo and the rest of the city spread out below.

Photo of the Week: Upcoming Trips

IMG_2951New York, USA

I know it’s been quiet on here lately.  It’s because I’ve been taking a much-needed break after the massive New Zealand share, but also because I’ve been taking my time figuring out our travel plans for the rest of the year.  Admittedly, we’re dragging our feet with our plans; and since we didn’t have a clear idea on where we wanted to go, we decided to just let it play out as the year goes on.  That’s how we ended up spending Memorial day right here in New York City.

But now I am excited to share with you that we have it all figured out, at least the travel part. First up, we are heading to Florida later this month for a work conference, but coupling it with a few extra days in Siesta Key, rated as the number one beach in the USA! After that, we’re flying over to British Columbia for a few days on a cottage trip with the family over July 4th.  Then we will be in Scotland, and finally Bali towards the end of the year.  It’s going to be a busy second half of 2017 and I can’t wait to share all about our trips with you!

Photo of the Week: Blossom

IMG_3150New York City, USA

It’s Memorial Day weekend, and somehow we found ourselves without any travel plans.  This is pretty rare since as you know, we usually plan our travel to coincide with national holidays to maximize our work vacation days.  Seeing as how we are in the city on this gorgeous weekend, we decided to do some of the things we don’t normally do – like go boating in Central Park, and visit the Brooklyn museum.  Sometimes it’s nice to play tourist in your own city.
