Whitsundays: Whitehaven Beach

IMG_0542

Close your eyes and imagine a tropical paradise. With fine white sand and clear blue water as far as the eye can see, Whitehaven is probably as close to paradise as you can get. I’ve been to my share of beautiful beaches, but nothing holds a candle to Whitehaven.  It’s no wonder that it’s considered one of the world’s most unspoiled and beautiful beaches.  The area is uninhabited and can only be accessed by boat or helicopter from the surrounding islands.

Photo of the Week: Spring

IMG_4560New York Botanical Garden, Bronx, New York

Spring is here and yet the weather is still cold and dreary.  So what’s a better way to remind ourselves of spring than with a picture of this stunning orchid in bloom.  Last weekend, I trekked up to the Bronx to go to the annual Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden. As you enter the conservatory, you’re hit by the intoxicating smell, heat, and humidity that clings to your skin and fogs up your camera lens.  It transports you from the bitter cold of New York to a tropical paradise.

Every Monday of each week, I’ll share a photo with you from my adventures around the world and at home.  Most of my photos have little or no post processing.  If you would like to see more, please click the ‘Follow’ button.

Places I Want to Go: Hallstatt, Austria

A few months ago in a moment of impulsive spontaneity Fausto booked us on a flight to Austria this Fall.  We talked about it for a few days and then completely put it out of our mind for the rest of the summer.  Now as October is fast approaching, I started to think more about what I want to do when I get there.

The original plan was to stay 3 days in Vienna and soak in some culture, music, and pastry.  But as I started planning, I realized we’d be remiss to go all the way to Austria and not see the country-side. So while looking for places nearby that we could visit for the day, I came across this beautiful picture of Hallstatt.  This idyllic town is about 3 hours away from Vienna by train, nestled between a lake and towering mountains in the backdrop.

If this looks familiar to you, it’s because this picture and others like it have been used in many screen savers. In fact, this place is so beautiful that a replica of the village has been created in China. I can’t wait to see the real thing for myself in a few months.

Photo of the Week: Foggy Cliff

IMG_6181Cliff of Moher, Ireland

This photo was taken at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland.  After watching this spectacular site featured in many movies, we were excited to finally make it to the Emerald Isle in the summer of 2013 to see it for ourselves. This Irish natural wonder is where coastline rises high above the Atlantic ocean. If you are not scared of heights,  you can walk along  the cliff side all the way to the edge, staring down into the abyss.  This magnificent vista is one of the most popular tourist locations in Western Ireland.
